Chop's keeper for a number of years was required to periodically check on other
automated Vineyard lighthouses, (Cape Pogue, Edgartown, and East Chop). The keeper's
quarters now serves as recreational housing for the Coast Guard. Area originally known
as "Holmes Hole".
