*Significant Feature~~  Lighthouse was damaged by a hurricane in 1898 which caused it to
go out of service. A new tower was built just north of old one and put into operation in
1905. The new tower was then decommissioned in 1933, dismantled, and shipped to
South Fox Island on Lake Michigan. Old tower was restored and put back into service in
1998.
