*Significant Feature~~ Built using early 1900's skyscraper technology, this one of the
Great Lakes' most notable lighthouse engineering achievements, especially considering
the vast remoteness of its location. It also was very rare among U. S. lighthouses as it
was manned by four keepers, rather than the customary one or two. It is also the most
western of all Michigan lighthouses.
