*Waterway Location~~ West Side Main Channel, Upper New York Bay
*Significant Feature~~  Perhaps the most famous of all female lighthouses keepers, Kate
Walker, manned this light for 36 years, from 1883-1919. Kate singlehandedly is credited
with saving more than 50 lives while keeper of the lighthouse. In 1996, the Coast Guard
Buoy Tender Katherine Walker was launched in her honor.
