*Significant Feature~~ Purchased by a former tugboat captain in 1955, the lighthouse was
relocated from its screwpile foundation in Albemarle Sound to the banks of Edenton Bay.
The Edenton Historic Commission purchased the lighthouse in 2007 and it has once again
been moved, this time to the waterfront town of Edenton. The Historical Commission is in
the process of restoring the lighthouse.
A replica of the previous Roanoke River screwpile lighthouse, destroyed by ice floes in
1885, is on display at the Port O'Plymouth Museum in the nearby town of Plymouth at a
site not far from the original home of the lighthouse.
