*Significant Feature~~ The entire area surrounding the lighthouse, once a summer resort,
became a rather infamous prison for interred Confederates and Southern sympathizers
during the Civil War. At one point, nearly 20,000 prisoners were detained here, and
approximately 4,000 of those died during incarceration and were buried near the
lighthouse. Many paranormal events have been recorded within the lighthouse, perhaps
due to those Confederates who died in the prison.
