*Significant Feature~~ Second oldest surviving lighthouse on the Chesapeake, (only
Old
Cape Henry is older). Lighthouse is on the grounds of U. S. Army base Fort Monroe.
During the War of 1812, the British seized the lighthouse and used it as a lookout base
for the area.
