*Current Lens~~ 50mm, solar powered
*Open to Public?~~ Yes (grounds only)
*Current Owner~~ U. S. Coast Guard lease to Matagorda Island State Park
*Waterway Location~~ Matagorda Bay, Pass Cavallo
*Significant Feature~~ During the Civil War, the lens was removed by Confederates and
buried so as not to be used by Union troops. Several of the iron plates were also
demolished. In 1873, the lighthouse was disassembled, then reassembled and repaired at
a point which was two miles away from the encroachment of the sea. Tower is identical to
that at
Point Bolivar.
