*Significant Feature~~ As part of the will of former Boston Red Sox owner Tom Yawkey,
North Island, all but the portion which the lighthouse is on, as well as South Island, was
left to the South Carolina Heritage Trust, which turned the area into the Tom Yawkey
Wildlife Preserve. In 2001, the lighthouse and remaining grounds were added to the
Preserve.
