*Significant Feature~~ This is actually the second fiberglass tower at this location. The
first, which replaced the original caisson lighthouse, was erected in 1982. Due to
complaints from mariners that the white color of the tower blended in with the Deer
Island sewage treatment plant background, the white tower was removed in 1983 and
replaced with the current brown tower.
