*Significant Feature~~ Originally erected on a
422-foot high cliff overlooking the Pacific,
(making it the highest U. S. light above sea level), the tower was moved in 1998 to Mal
Coombs Park in Shelter Cove, 30 miles south of the original site, which had a light
erected on a steel pole in 1951 when the lighthouse was decommissioned. The
Humboldt
County Fair's entrance building in Ferndale is a replica of the Cape Mendocino
Lighthouse, complete with the lighthouse's original Fresnel lens.
